Premium is the new Platinum

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

You know how it goes. When credit card companies first tried to make their higher end customers feel good they issued them with “special” gold credit cards. This made a clear distinction between the VIP’s and the rest of us. But let’s face it - the rest of us are paying customers too and card issuers realized they can do better by making us happy too. So then came the silver credit cards which were a poor mans solution to gold - that didn’t stick. People wanted the real thing. So what did the card companies do? Simple they downgraded the gold making it a popular card and issued the real prestigious platinum card for their truly important customers. But alas, we are not dumb (not for long) and more and more platinum cards were issued too. So now the companies are issuing special “premium” cards with a floor minimum of $1 million dollars in tangible assets to get accepted to this “exclusive” club. Yeah… let’s see how long that lasts.
