Traveling for the Physically Challenged

Just because your movements are confined in a wheelchair doesn’t mean you can’t travel around. The key is preparation and here are some tips to ensure a hassle-free travel for you and your companions:

Plan with your travel agent. It’s best to talk to your travel agent about your needs and the facilities and amenities you would require during the trip, right up to your destination. With the use of the Internet, you can also browse around the sites that your travel agent will recommend so you can see for yourself and minimize any surprises when you get there.

Ensure your chair is fully operational before you travel. Like a car needing regular tune-up, it’s always wise to have your wheelchair serviced a week before you travel.

Keep your local embassy or consulate’s number handy. Especially when traveling overseas, this would be very helpful for medical or any kind of emergencies you may have.
