Queensland is fit for a Queen

July 27th, 2007

When you think about Australia, the cities of Sydney and Melbourne come to mind.  However, there is Brisbane to think about as a great tourist destination.  The large river Brisbane flows through the city and most of the attractions are loacted on the river.  If you are lucky, you will be able to see sharks swimming in the river.  It is not advisable to swim in the river on the way back to your hotel in Brisbane, so don’t be tempted, even if you have drunk too much Aussie beer and sang too many Aussie drinking songs.

Most of the attractions are in the centre of the city, so book a hotel in Brisbane which is not far away.  You will be landing at the Brisbane International Airport and although there are shuttles, you can also take a taxi.  Most Aussie taxi drivers are very nice and will not cheat you.  Instead, they will try to sell you their tourist services for the next day.  If you get a good price, go for it.

If you don’t take a taxi tour, go to your nearest tourist information centre.  They are extremely helpful and will guide you in the right direction.  Although Australians can be a bit rogh around the edges, they are very very friendly and will invite you to join them in their merriment.  Don’t pass up the opportunity to join in the fun!

Be sure to check out cheaperthanhotels.com.au for all your travel needs. In addition to Brisbane, you can find some of the best deals on the site on a Hotel in Melbourne, Hotel in Sydney and much more.

What’s more important?

Credit card processing rates are the easiest feature to look at when you are choosing a merchant account, but they are not the only feature. You must take into account other parameters like service, processing time and tracking features. Gone are the days of credit card impression machines (ahhh, the satisfying noise of the roller machine when it clunked both and forth across the carbon paper). So many features go into a merchant account, and one of the most important features (just as important as the rates) is the time it takes for debit authorizations. Your customer rates the professionalism of your business by the time it takes to check out with their goods. Nothing creates a worse lasting impression than a long check-out time and a credit card authorization that seems to take so long that the customer wonders if the credit card is being rejected. While no service provider will guarantee a minimum authorization time, some providers will give you a guideline to their average processing time. Choose the shortest.

The credit card machines must be rented per month, so if you are just starting out, you will be inclined to rent only one. However, some machines are better than others and break down more easily. It is a good idea to have a back-up plan, and a better idea to have a back-up machine. Even if the provider guarantees you same–day service in the event that your machine breaks down, a few hours are enough to cause significant revenue loss.

There was a time when a merchant had to wait a week to see if the credit card was authorized, or he/she could phone in every purchase. Now most providers give you access to your account information online, 24 hours a day. As a independent business owner, you need the reassurance that you can wake up in the middle of the night and look at your bank statement. Waiting until the banks open in the morning is not an option.

Business beyond the Golf Course

July 23rd, 2007

It’s no secret that they key to any successful business deal is in the personal relationships you create. It is probably safe to say that you can get more accomplished by taking a potential investor, client or partner to the golf course than from a long day of negotiations and business meetings. But while you can’t leave out golfing and dining when hosting important business partners, you still have to make sure you provide them with the proper working environments they are used to. A good place to go to when hosting important business partners is businessuites.com, they provide short term office space rental services at any scale and to meet almost any requirements.

Organized and Well-located

If you are looking for a good conference centre, I recommend the Queen Elizabeth 2 Conference Centre which is in Westminster. There are many Hotels in London, but this is the best Hotel in London. One of the most important things to remember when you are planning a conference is details. The number of people attending, the number of people who will be staying in the Queen Elizabeth and the number of people who will be staying other London Hotels.

Once you know the actual number of people who will be attending, you must think about their every need: Food, entertainment (besides the actual conference), special dietary considerations. At the Queen Elizabeth, they actually guide you through all of these considerations, so half of the work is already done for you. You can concentrate on presenting your business professionally and effectively.

Join in on the discussion

There are so many sites online that offer movie reviews. But to be honest, I just don’t think offering a movie review in the age of the internet truly demonstrates the spirit of the internet nor does it take advantage of today’s web 2.0. After all, you could have read a movie review in any newspaper for decades now.

That’s why I like criticsrant.com. Although the site offers a wide range of reviews on both movies and tv shows, the really cool part of the site is their movie discussions section. In the age of web 2.0 and user content there is no reason to limit yourself to a critic’s review. Why not read what other users are saying and even join in on the discussion?
