Laguna Seca Raceway Takes on New Speed

The Laguna Seca Raceway is used to speed. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Laguna Seca Raceway hosts five of the world's major car racing events every year as well as dozens of smaller events throughout the year.

But Laguna Seca now excels in another form of speed. Laguna Seca has recently integrated Cognio's Spectrum Expert solution to detect, monitor, identify and analyze interference on Laguna Seca raceway's 500-acre campus-wide wireless network.

Keeping their network functioning properly throughout their huge campus is no easy task. The Laguna Seca campus includes five bridges and 350 feet in elevation changes which can interfere with wireless reception. Other factors which can effect connectivity are the thousands of cars parked nearby during major events (which can reflect signals causing interference) and the abundance of wireless devices brought by the thousands of contenders and guests.

The Cognio Spectrum Expert is a PC card designed to work on a windows based laptop which assists in detecting and pinpointing devices causing interference to a Wi Fi network. The Spectrum Expert maps out every device broadcasting on the network frequency allowing you to see any device connected to the network and detect devices connecting without authorization. In addition, the PC card can pinpoint non Wi Fi devices which cause most cases of Wi Fi interference (such as microwaves, cordless phones etc.) detecting exactly which device is causing the interference without the normal process of tedious trial and error.

Using the Spectrum Expert by Cognio event organizers at Laguna Seca manage to accommodate the Wi-Fi needs of each contending team quickly solving any network problems and ensuring a smooth operation during even the largest racing events.
