Sydney Picked As Convention Site

Sydney has earned its rightful place in the global tourism industry. Apart from being a top tourist destination, it is also a top choice for international conventions. In fact, this vibrant capital of Australia just been picked as the site of the 2010 convention of Toastmasters International. This is the first time the international convention of the global group of public speakers will be held outside of North America.

The four-day event is expected to attract two thousand orators from around the world and contribute nearly six million dollars into Sydney's economy. The Toastmasters International Convention will take place at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Center in August 2010.

Toastmasters International is a worldwide organization that promotes public speaking and leadership development. Currently, it has more than 10,000 clubs and 200,000 members in 90 countries. Previous international conventions of the group were held in Atlanta, Reno, Washington, Phoenix, Massachusetts, Toronto and Calgary.

Meanwhile, Sydney has also gained the right to host the 2014 Rotary International Convention involving 22,000 delegates. With an estimated 63.8 million Australian dollars in earnings, this four-day convention is seen as one of the biggest and most lucrative business events ever to be held in Australia. Sydney previously bid for the 2012 Rotary convention but lost to Bangkok City, Thailand.
